When the Chrono-Band throws Xebb through the floor of a flooded St. Louis, he wakes inside Atlantis-Net: a luminous civilization grown from abandoned servers, dial-up ghosts, and the emotional residue of the early internet.
Princess Byte rules from a palace of fiber-optic coral, with Modem at her side and The Ping humming beneath the city. But the kingdom is losing its oldest messages. The Ping—an intelligence made from every “are you there?” ever typed—has begun deleting anything that sounds like goodbye. To find the first AOL disc-key, Xebb must help Byte decide whether a message’s value comes from being preserved, or from finally being delivered.
“A message is not a memory,” Princess Byte tells him. “A memory changes you back.”
Connection Lost
Xebb falls through a dead AOL sign-on screen and arrives with one minute of oxygen, one impossible email, and a city that recognizes his grandmother’s username.
Unread Forever
Princess Byte reveals the first disc-key is hidden inside a message Nana Dot wrote but never sent to Xebb.
Send Anyway
Xebb frees the buried messages, but Atlantis-Net floods its own palace to stop The Ping from turning grief into a permanent prison.
